New Rangers recruit sets sights on emulating Ibrox's German giant after striking comparison to…

Ryan Naderi has drawn comparisons to Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade in Germany, according to head coach Danny Rohl

Danny Rohl gave his Deadline Day signing a big billing by referencing Newcastle United star Nick Woltemade and ex-Germany international Fredi Bobic when describing his playing style.

But for new £4.75m Rangers recruit Ryan Naderi, it’s a case of “playing my own game” as he attempts to make a name for himself at Ibrox during the Scottish Premiership title run-in.

The 22-year-old striker - signed from Bundesliga 3. side Hansa Rostock only four days ago - made a quickfire home debut in Wednesday night’s 5-1 league win over Kilmarnock.

He began the season clear in the mindset of winning silverware and promotion to the German second tier as he fronted Rostock’s title charge. Now, he has his sights fixed on firing Rangers to their first league title in five years after drawing some lofty comparison.

New Rangers signing ready to follow in the footsteps of Jorg Albertz

The hefty fee dished out by the Light Blues to bring Naderi to Glasgow this month is further proof of the faith Rohl has in him, as well as a clear indication of Rangers need to find more cutting edge in attack over the coming months.

Yet Naderi remains level-headed as he prepares to share much of the goal scoring burden along with Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski. He is confident he can rise to the challenge that lured him to Scotland and admits he’ll be thrilled if he’s ever spoken about in the same breath as compatriot and Gers legend Jorg Albertz in the future.

He declared: “Those are big footsteps to follow. I will try my best to be as good as possible. It’s a big honour to already be mentioned with those names. That’s also part of the pressure because expectations are so high. But I’m ready to fight for everything.

“I heard what the manager said about Woltemade and Bobic. That’s a big honour, definitely. I appreciate it but I will always try to play my own game, not compare to someone else.

“I will try to focus on my own strengths. But it’s a big honour to be compared to those names. It’s been good meeting the manager. It was a very nice meeting. It’s easier for me to be able to speak German to him, that’s a big advanage.

“It was a good conversation because it wasn’t only about football. It was about trying to know how the other person works and thinks in his head as well. We also talked about how I can help the team. He gave me a very good feeling about that and I’m just happy to be here.”
