Leeds United head coach Daniel Farke has told Dominic Calvert-Lewin to focus on his goals in Yorkshire if he wants to be in the England squad for the World Cup. Leeds were good value for their win and Farke was delighted with his side’s efforts after a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Having started brightly, Forest grew into the first half but when Jayden Bogle opened the scoring, there was only going to be one winner. The full-back expertly brought down an Ilia Gruev through ball to fire underneath Stefan Ortega on 26 minutes. Just four minutes later it was 2-0.

James Justin was initially denied by Ortega but showed great composure to square the ball for Noah Okafor to fire in. Shortly after the break, the three points were well and truly sealed when Dominic Calvert-Lewin diverted Gruev’s shot in with his chest.

Lorenzo Lucca scored a consolation for the visitors but that was the only mark on what was a big win for the hosts. When asked about the potential for Calvert-Lewin to make the Three Lions squad for the World Cup, Farke said: “We will see, time will tell.

“For Dominic it is important he concentrates on achieving our goals. I don’t judge him just by his goal tally which is of course impressive, especially his figures at this stage of the season but also his work rate off the ball and his capability to link up play.

“That is excellent for us. His set pieces in both boxes, he can hold the ball and he works the centre-backs.

“He is a fantastic character and he has been at this level before. He has England caps and he has quite a good goal record as well. Time will tell if Thomas [Tuchel] needs him or not.

“For him it is just important he concentrates on delivering spirited performances. I am happy after a little where he did not score and he missed a great chance in the first half, he was able to get himself a typical instinctive striker finish with his chest today.

“It is great to have him but it is important that we achieve our goals this season.” That victory has taken Leeds much closer to achieving those goals as they now sit nine points above the relegation zone in the Premier League.
