Man Utd now willing to quadruple salary of 'world-class' star, confident of agreeing deal -…

Manchester United are optimistic that they can agree a new contract with academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo, and they are willing to quadruple his salary, according to a report from talkSPORT.

Mainoo burst on the scene at Old Trafford a few years ago, and although he became a key player for the Red Devils at the time, he saw his minutes rapidly decrease this season. Former United boss Ruben Amorim failed to play him regularly, with his future appearing uncertain heading into the January transfer window.

With the World Cup approaching later this year, Mainoo, understandably, wanted to be playing games, and he wasn't being afforded that opportunity under Amorim. Thankfully for Mainoo and the club, Michael Carrick has arrived and given the young midfielder a key role in the side once again, and he could now be awarded a new contract.

According to a report from talkSPORT, Manchester United are now confident of agreeing a new contract with Mainoo before the end of the season, with talks over a long-term deal set to get underway. The Red Devils are willing to quadruple his current salary in order to convince him to sign on the dotted line.

Mainoo, described as 'world-class' by Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, looked set to be heading through the exit door at Old Trafford heading into the January transfer window, but the England international has now started all three of Carrick's games in charge.

Interestingly, United have won all three of the games in which Mainoo has started of late, showing that Amorim perhaps judged him wrong when he refused to start him earlier in the season.

It's claimed that Mainoo is currently earning around £25,000-a-week, but his new salary could see him more in line with his team-mates, earning six figures.

Mainoo Now Has Outside England Chance

Mainoo has also fallen out of favour with England, which is understandable considering his lack of minutes for United in recent months. The youngster was involved with the national team under Gareth Southgate, and he'll be hoping to impress new manager Thomas Tuchel in the coming weeks and months.

Mainoo certainly has a chance of making the squad ahead of the World Cup, but whether he will start is a different story. The emergence of Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson might have made things a little more tricky for him.
