Wolves made a late attempt to sign FC Twente’s Bart van Rooij in the winter market.
Earlier this week, Tubantia reported Rob Edwards’ side made a ‘mega offer’ of €10m to sign the right-back. However, the Eredivisie side refused to allow their key player to leave late in the window.
Twente’s decision to turn down Wolves’ offer hasn’t pleased the 24-year-old. He was open to a move to Molineux even though the Premier League side are now bottom of the table.
A fresh report from Tubantia has another interview with Van Rooij, covered by their reporter, Leon ten Voorde.
The journalist claims he heard the impression of a Wolf howling at the Eredivisie side’s training centre. The Wolves target confirms the ‘football humour’ during the latest chat with the newspaper.
“Yes, but chances are it was Ricky van Wolfswinkel. Ricky is the best at this, but he’s not the only one impersonating a wolf these days. That’s the strength of this group. Everyone can make jokes. It’s part of it, and I enjoy it myself,” he said.
The defender indicated the offer proposed by the English club was tempting. However, he immediately had doubts whether the move could go through due to lack of time.
“I knew I was in a good position there, but I didn’t expect them to make any headway in the winter. I did immediately realise it would be a difficult situation on the final day. That’s why I was quite relaxed about it, but at the same time, it was a serious amount of money,” Van Rooij explained.
The Twente fullback, for his part, was keen on joining Wolves in the last window to fulfil his Premier League dream. He isn’t certain whether he will get another opportunity in the future.
“I was definitely open to it. Playing in the Premier League is a dream. Being a footballer comes with a lot of uncertainty, and you never know what’s going to happen. It’s not every day that an FC Twente player can go to the Premier League,” he added.
