Newcastle United chiefs have staged a summit meeting this week on Tyneside with all the club's senior recruitment team in attendance.

The meeting is a routine affair and has been in the diary, but Newcastle are set to leave no stone unturned ahead of the summer window. As reported by Chronicle Live this morning, the Magpies want to sign at least four new senior stars in the next trading period after a barren January.

Recruitment chiefs will look back and review targets from the last six months, but also assess new names that have flickered up on the radar. It has to be said that Newcastle's hard-working scouts never really stop when it comes to spying missions, and they are helpless to control the PSR restrictions that mean some targets end up signing for Premier League rivals.

Sporting director Ross Wilson will be around the table with head of recruitment Steve Nickson, Andy Howe, and senior scouts have jetted in from international destinations as the club stage a post-window debrief.

The meeting is deemed a vital get-together for the club's recruitment team ahead of one of the most important windows since the club was taken over by Saudi backers PIF in 2021.

Summer spending and the PSR landscape is also likely to be cleared a little with some first-team stars leaving Newcastle this summer. Kieran Trippier, Joe Willock, and Fabian Schar could head for the exit door. Willock has genuine interest from Fulham and Crystal Palace, while Trippier is wanted by Saudi Pro League clubs, with his contract set to end in June.

Wilson said back on December 1: "The scouting work is always ongoing. So, the guys are doing loads of work with that all the time."

Speaking on the barren window that was last month, Howe said this week: "Financially, it wasn’t possible. We are under financial restrictions. We have to be smart and decide to wait until the summer.

"The decision is that the summer window is a lot easier to recruit. There are more players available and better value for money.

"There were players we were looking at for the future, younger players we could develop. Ultimately, it didn’t happen. I didn’t think there was a player coming in that could affect us."
