The result leaves Scott Parker’s side 19th in the table, 11 points adrift of safety, having not won in their last 15 league games.
It’s prompted increasing levels of criticism from the fanbase, with Parker and Pace himself both taking the brunt.
Writing in the programme ahead of today’s clash, Pace wrote: "I write my notes today fully appreciating that this has been a challenging week.
"We haven’t shied away from the fact that Monday night’s performance against Sunderland was not what you, our valued supporters, deserved.
"I want to thank the travelling fans that made the journey on a weeknight, your efforts do not go unnoticed.

"We are in a tough position at the moment, there’s no getting away from that. But in the challenging times you often see what people are made of.

"The window saw some of the squad move on, whether that be permanently or on loan. I want to thank all of the players who left for their efforts during their time with the club and I wish them the very best for their future careers.”
