Revived Man Utd host Spurs and England begin Six Nations against Wales

England have already had a chance to size up their Six Nations competitors with France having cruised past Ireland in the opener on Thursday night.

Steve Borthwick’s men head into the competition on a run of 11 straight Test victories, which they’ll expect to continue against Wales, who have lost 20 of their last 22.

If that seems like a dreadful mismatch, the Welsh are at least buoyed by the return of Louis Rees-Zammit, who starts at full-back in his first Six Nations match since 2023 after initially quitting rugby to play in the NFL. As for Scotland, they will face Italy without Blair Kinghorn and Duhan van der Merwe.

Meanwhile there is a huge day of action in the Premier League as Arsenal bid to take another step towards the title at home to Sunderland. First up, Manchester United host Tottenham in the early kick-off aiming to continue their mini-revival under Michael Carrick and pile renewed pressure on his counterpart Thomas Frank.

We also have a relegation six-pointer between Burnley and West Ham. Stay tuned for updates throughout the day.

Bryan Mbeumo scores a training-ground routine set piece, seizing on a corner and finishing from the edge of the box. You suspect Spurs might have been better equipped to deal with that if their captain was still on the pitch…

Looked harsh on first viewing, but the studs went down the ankle of Casemiro. In a week where Romero hasn’t been far from the headlines, having called out the Spurs board over their lack of January transfer activity, a sixth red card for Tottenham is not how he wanted to remain in the spotlight. The visitors had been on top and looked in control until that point. Huge opportunity for United now.

February 7, 2026 12:59 pm A poignant day at Old Trafford Pete HallNorth-West Football Correspondent Whatever happens on the pitch, it’s been a poignant day at Old Trafford, one day after the 68th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster. Families of those affected are guests in the directors’ box with black armbands worn by all players and banners all around the ground.

February 7, 2026 12:57 pm Spurs start brightly Kat LucasFootball News Editor Thomas Frank will be very happy with the first half hour of his Tottenham side’s trip to Old Trafford. Manchester United have come close through Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes but Spurs have looked cohesive and efficient, with Pape Matar Sarr running the midfield.
