Samuel Luckhurst says it's 'strange' Man Utd didn't move for Tottenham star after what he's seen

Manchester United failed to make a move to sign Tottenham midfielder Joao Palhinha before his move to north London, and journalist Samuel Luckhurst has labelled it as 'strange'.

Palhinha was available last summer on loan from Bayern Munich, and considering the performances he's produced throughout his career, it's perhaps a surprise that lots of other clubs weren't in the race. United have been desperate for a midfielder of late, and Palhinha could have been an ideal addition at the time.

Palhinha is currently on loan at Tottenham for the remainder of the season, and they do have the option to buy him permanently if they wish to do so. If Spurs opt against securing his signature, it will be interesting to see if clubs like United enter the race, considering he's clearly surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich.

Joao Palhinha in action for Tottenham Hotspur

Reporting on X during Manchester United's game against Tottenham on Saturday, journalist Luckhurst has suggested that he finds it 'strange' the Red Devils didn't make a move to sign Palhinha when he was available.

Palhinha lined up in the middle of the park for Spurs against United at Old Trafford, with the Portuguese midfielder clearly catching the eye of Luckhurst. Spurs have been disappointing this season, but it's certainly not the fault of Palhinha, who has been one of their better players in all competitions this term.

Whether Palhinha would have picked United over Spurs remains to be seen, especially after the latter defeated the former in the Europa League final last season.
