Double boost for Newcastle United ahead of facing Tottenham

Newcastle United have had a double boost ahead of facing Tottenham on Tuesday night.

Ahead of Eddie Howe’s side facing Brentford later today, Spurs facing Man U in the lunchtime kick-off.

With the game goalless in the first half, Cristian Romero with a challenge on Casemiro that left the Brazil international writhing in agony.

The Tottenham captain red carded.

Michael Oliver the referee on the pitch, no doubt some Spurs fans now joining in with those from other fanbases who claim the Newcastle United supporting ref has done this for the club he follows…

In reality, a typically daft and reckless challenge by Cristian Romero and no chance of any appeal being successful against the red card.

It will actually mean a four match ban and see the Tottenham defender miss Premier League matches against Newcastle United, Arsenal, Fulham and Palace. The next PL game he can play in will be in over five weeks time, for Tottenham away to Liverpool on 15 March 2026.

Cristian Romero may be a bit of an idiot but he is one of the few Tottenham players who shows any passion, plus he has proved an attacking danger to United in recent times, including scoring twice at St James’ Park this season to earn Spurs an undeserved point.

The only down side is that it appears Cristian Romero has gifted Man U all three points today, as after his red card, Mbeumbo gave the home side the lead and Man U lead 1-0 at half-time against 10 men Spurs.

Starting with the Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United in October, Tottenham have only won two of 17 domestic matches and have lost nine of them. Which looks set to be 2 in 18 after this Man U match and 10 defeats.

It has then became a double blow for Tottenham and a double boost for Newcastle United, as then Spurs defender Destiny Udogie has been forced off with an injury at Old Trafford and looks set to miss Tuesday night’s match as well. Two of Tottenham’s back four today now set to be out for the NUFC match.
