Bryan Mbeumo continues impressive record vs Tottenham
The red card changed the game completely. It allowed United to kick on and take advantage of Tottenham losing one of the best players, which they did within eight minutes of Romero’s red card.
A superb corner routine from Fernandes and Mainoo led to the ball being played into Mbeumo’s path before the Cameroon international found the bottom right corner.
That means Mbeumo now has six goals in nine games against Tottenham.
Michael Carrick stuck with the same line-up against Tottenham
It was no surprise that Carrick stuck with the same line-up that beat Fulham 3-2 a week ago. None of the players who started were deserving of being dropped, and it seems like the newly appointed head coach has found a winning formula at Old Trafford.
The decision to start with Mbeumo up top instead of Benjamin Sesko was justified when the 26-year-old opened the scoring against Tottenham.
Who was your Manchester United man of the match against Spurs?
Casemiro the warrior
In the 29th minute, Romero was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Casemiro. The Argentine then needlessly followed through with his tackle and caught the United midfielder’s ankle.
Casemiro looked troubled after the injury, but he did superbly to recover from the knock and carry on. The Brazilian star helped United dictate the tempo in midfield and made multiple important tackles to protect the defence.
Romero now has six red cards in his Tottenham career. He was a liability for Thomas Frank’s side today.
Casemiro went on to play 88 minutes with a total of 91 touches on the ball.
Bruno Fernandes goal contribution milestone
Fernandes’ goal against Tottenham was his 200th goal contribution since signing for United from Sporting CP in 2020.
The Portugal international found himself in the right place at the right time when Dalot sent his cross into the box.
Dalot’s delivered appeared to be aimed for Benjamin Sesko, who missed the header, but Fernandes made sure of it.
The 32-year-old continues to have a huge influence on the team. It was a man-of-the-match display from him today.
