Six biggest winners and one loser as Man Utd beat Tottenham 2-0

Manchester United welcomed Tottenham to Old Trafford on Saturday and picked up a fourth win on the bounce.

It was a well-matched start to the game, both sides playing well and knocking the ball around well, as Manchester United had the better of things.

Then, the game changed in the 29th minute as Cristian Romero put in a bad tackle on Casemiro and got himself rightly sent off as a result.

United took a 1-0 lead shortly after with Bryan Mbeumo finishing off an excellent set-piece move.

Tottenham didn’t give up, but in the 80th minute, Bruno Fernandes secured all three points as he scored from Diogo Dalot’s cross.

This meant United secured a 2-0 win over Spurs, and here are the winners and losers.

Who was your Manchester United man of the match against Spurs?

Winners

Firstly, the winners.

Bryan Mbeumo: After scoring the opener for United, Mbeumo has now hit double digits this season for his new club.

It was a brilliant finish to cap off a genius set-piece, passing it into the bottom corner.

Mbeumo has become inevitable for United this season and particularly in big games with goals against Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, and now Spurs twice.

Kobbie Mainoo: With each passing game, Mainoo continues to make Ruben Amorim look foolish as he showcases his brilliant midfield ability.

Here, Mainoo ran the show in the middle of the park and set up Mbeumo for the opener after the smart set-piece worked a treat.

Looks back to his absolute best level.

What is your immediate reaction to Manchester United beating Spurs?

A comfortable win for Michael Carrick!

Senne Lammens: After keeping just two clean sheets all season under Amorim, Lammens has now kept two in four games under Carrick, getting the praise he deserves.

Lammens is an excellent goalkeeper, and the new system isn’t leaving him completely exposed time and time again.

Four clean sheets now for the United shot stopper, and he will want more.

Diogo Dalot: Another week back in his natural role, and Dalot continues to restore his reputation with another solid performance.

Often tarred with unfair criticism, Dalot deserves his flowers as there aren’t many right-backs better than him when he’s on form.

Keeping Noussair Mazraoui out of the team with his performances. Dalot also claimed an assist for United’s second goal.

Bruno Fernandes: Another game and another goal contribution for Fernandes as his finish makes it six assists and a goal in six games post Ruben Amorim.

Fernandes wasn’t at his absolute best today, but still always finds a way to get in and amongst the goals.

United would be crazy to let him leave in the summer.

Tyler Fletcher: Named on the bench after being part of the four-man midfield department in training, Tyler finally joined brother Jack and father Darren in the United history books.

How do you think he did in his brief appearance? What are your expectations for him?

Tyler became United’s 258th academy graduate and looked at home immediately, completing a few passes and getting forward.

Arguably the best six prospect at the club, and he’s earned himself further opportunities here.

Losers

And the loser.

Ruben Amorim: Every game, Carrick shows new levels as to how terrible Amorim was for the club.

Not only has the Mainoo decision aged horribly for Amorim, but Carrick also managed to beat a team with 10 men, something United failed to do against Everton in November.

Amorim has been silent since departing the club and should stay that way as disbelief over how he got so long continues to grow.
