Man Utd player ratings vs Tottenham: 9/10 for Fernandes, four stars get 7/10s as Spurs are put to the sword

Manchester United produced a commanding performance to secure a convincing 2–0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League today.

Caretaker head coach Michael Carrick showed faith in continuity by naming the same XI that edged past Fulham 3–2 last weekend.

Spurs were rocked early on as captain Cristian Romero was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Casemiro, leaving the visitors with a mountain to climb.

United wasted no time in making their numerical advantage count, with Bryan Mbeumo breaking the deadlock after slick interplay between Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.

From that moment on, the Red Devils completely pinned Spurs back in their own half, turning the screw and carving out chance after chance.

The pressure finally told when Diogo Dalot linked up brilliantly with Fernandes, allowing the United skipper to slot home a second and effectively kill the contest.

Player Ratings

Senne Lammens – 7/10

Made an early error by passing the ball straight to an opponent, but recovered well. He remained alert to Tottenham’s limited efforts and did enough to secure a well-earned clean sheet.

Diogo Dalot – 8/10

Delivered an absolutely world-class cross to tee up Fernandes for United’s second goal, capping off an excellent display.

Harry Maguire – 7/10

A rock at the back, giving Dominic Solanke no room to manoeuvre and winning his key battles with authority.

Lisandro Martinez – 7/10

Another fabulous performance from the Argentina international. His vertical passes from back are a refreshing sight.

Luke Shaw – 7/10

Tested Vicario with two decent efforts and made a shrewd tactical challenge to bail out Lammens. He is loving his life as a traditional left-back.

Casemiro – 7/10

Another combative display from the veteran midfielder. He won the foul that led to Romero’s red card and went close to scoring his sixth goal of the season.

Kobbie Mainoo – 8/10

Kept things simple and composed in midfield with tidy distribution, while showing great awareness to pick out Mbeumo for the opening goal.

Bruno Fernandes – 9/10

Pulled the strings in midfield as ever. He was quick to spot Mainoo in space during the build-up to the opener, before doubling United’s lead with a magnificent finish that he made look effortless.

Bryan Mbeumo – 8/10

Took his goal superbly and could easily have added two more to his tally. Another lively, threatening display that continues to underline what a sensational signing he has been for United.

Amad Diallo – 6/10

The 23-year-old remains vital for United in transition, but he will be disappointed not to have doubled the lead in the first half when a golden chance fell his way.

Matheus Cunha – 7/10

Deployed as the central striker, he thought he had found the back of the net, only for the flag to deny him.

He should have made it 3-0 with the final kick of the game.
