**Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero cannot seem to get enough of the spotlight after another atrocious display in the Premier League.**
Spurs lost 2-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, marking their 10th Premier League defeat of the season, and Romero was the biggest culprit.
What started as an end-to-end contest ended up being a one-sided affair in Manchester after Romero was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Casemiro just before the half-hour mark.
That challenge swung momentum in United’s favour, and Michael Carrick’s side wasted no time taking advantage of their numerical advantage.
Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and talisman Bruno Fernandes on either side of half-time were enough to inflict more damage on Tottenham and ramp up the pressure on underfire manager Thomas Frank.
Mbeumo’s opener came just nine minutes after Romero’s moment of madness, while Fernandes’ late strike ensured Tottenham have now gone seven league games without a win (D4, L3).
Romero’s error comes just days after he threw the club hierarchy under the bus as Tottenham continue to struggle with a “disgraceful” injury crisis.
Intriguingly, he will now miss Tottenham’s next three Premier League games against Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Fulham, joining an already alarming list of absentees.
Romero’s tackle on Casemiro was needless and borderline moronic.
Not only did he leave his team in a precarious position against United, but Tottenham will also now have to face a significant chunk of their trial by fire without their captain.
Romero’s petulance has cost Tottenham one too many times, and he deserves to be stripped of the captain’s armband.
Tottenham must also consider cutting him loose at the end of the season.
[Handing him a new contract](https://whiteheartlane.com/cristian-romero-signs-new-contract-with-tottenham/) last term was a huge mistake, but Tottenham could turn it around by cashing in on Romero while his stock is still high.
Romero has been vocal about his desire to play in La Liga, and Atletico Madrid are known admirers of the Argentine defender. It’s time to let him chase his dreams elsewhere.
