Leeds kicked nine points clear of the division’s relegation zone with Friday night’s 3-1 victory at home to Nottingham Forest which left the Whites nine points ahead of third-bottom West Ham but played a game more than the Irons.
West Ham then took in their game in hand with Saturday afternoon’s clash at second-bottom Burnley and ex-Leeds star Crysencio Summerville again excelled in bagging the first goal of a hugely important 2-0 victory for their side.
Summerville fired the Irons ahead with just 13 minutes on the clock and January signing Taty Castellanos doubled the West Ham advantage in the 26th minute.
Burnley improved after the break but the damage was done as West Ham moved back to within six points of Leeds and just three points behind fourth-bottom Forest.
