James Garner fuming with Everton teammate after 21st minute moment in win over Fulham

Everton endured a tough opening 45 minutes in west London.

A sloppy first half display from the Toffees allowed Fulham to launch attack after attack, with Everton fortunate not to be 2-0 down after Raul Jimenez missed a sitter.

The lack of control appeared to be getting to some Everton players, as James Garner could be seen throwing his arms up in frustration at Vitalii Mykolenko.

Sum that one up for us, Toffees! 🤩

What a second half that was from the Blues 👏

Why James Garner was annoyed by Vitalii Mykolenko

The Ukraine international gave the ball away cheaply in the 21st minute, just as Everton had regained possession after a spell under pressure from Fulham.

It understandably irked Garner, who would have been keen for Everton to keep the ball for a few minutes and get a foothold in the game, but Mykolenko was unable to do so.

It was a difficult first half for the Everton No.16 on his return to the starting XI after a minor injury, having also inadvertently scored the opener for Fulham – a desperate attempt to block a shot from Jimenez led to the ball bouncing off Jordan Pickford and into the net off the Ukrainian.

After Jarrad Branthwaite did well at left-back during the 1-1 draw at Brighton, Mykolenko may feel a bit concerned about losing his spot to the England international on a regular basis.

The 26-year-old also finds himself out of contract at the end of the season, so he will be mindful of delivering for David Moyes in the second half of the campaign, or he could be released.

In fairness to Mykolenko, he did incredibly well to bounce back and assist Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for the equaliser, twisting Joachim Andersen all ends up before sliding in a superb cross.

So, perhaps the telling off from Garner had the desired impact.

Vitalii Mykolenko has no natural competition at left-back anymore with Adam Aznou nowhere to be seen

Moyes once again dropped Adam Aznou from the squad completely for the trip to Fulham, having also left the Morocco international out of the 1-1 draw at Brighton.

The 19-year-old had at least been sitting on the bench for the last 20 Premier League games, albeit not playing a single second of football.

Now, however, Moyes has axed Aznou completely, having only given the teenager 34 minutes of action this term which came in the FA Cup defeat against Sunderland.

Mykolenko is out of contract at the end of the season, would you let him leave on a free transfer?

Everton's Vitali Mykolenko.

It is a strange situation, and one which also means Mykolenko has no natural left-back breathing down his neck for a start, potentially contributing to his inconsistent performances.
