Michael Carrick just avoided repeating Ruben Amorim’s darkest moment of 2025/26

Michael Carrick saw his side secure yet another win on Saturday as Manchester United beat Tottenham at Old Trafford, avoiding one embarrassing Ruben Amorim feat in the process.

Without getting carried away, Manchester United fans have a right to be extremely positive right now, with Michael Carrick bringing good times back to Old Trafford.

This continued on Saturday with United beating Spurs 2-0, to surpass the points total from last season, with 13 games left to play.

Winning four games in a row is excellent, but it is just the start and quite honestly what this great club should be achieving countless times every season.

However, things are worth celebrating right now because of how much of an improvement it is on Ruben Amorim. One damning aspect of the win over Spurs is showing the improvement.

Man Utd have ALREADY got more points than 2024/25 with 13 games to go!

Michael Carrick passed the test of beating a 10-man Spurs

United were excellent as they swatted Spurs aside with ease, never looking like dropping points was a possibility for the Red Devils, before or after Cristian Romero was sent off.

Once it went to 10 vs 11, United were expected to go on and win, but Carrick deserves praise, as it hasn’t always been a formality to beat 10-man teams at Old Trafford.

Flashback to November, and Amorim actually failed to do exactly this against Everton. The Toffees went a man down early on in this game, and United should have then gone on to win.

However, on a very frustrating night at Old Trafford, United actually lost to 10-man Everton, which was one of the darkest moments in Amorim’s reign.

United were unable to craft anything noteworthy against Everton’s low block defence, even with the numerical advantage, which highlighted how badly set up Amorim’s attack was.

Who was your Manchester United man of the match against Spurs?

Manchester United proved difference between Carrick and Amorim

While Amorim did beat a 10-man Chelsea side, which came when United also had a man sent off. There is no doubt United would have lost against Spurs under Amorim.

United were playing really well against Tottenham before the red card, and simply continued this same style and got the rewards of it in a 2-0 win, of course, helped by two great goals.

Amorim struggled massively against the 10-man side, remaining with five defenders and moving players into unfamiliar roles.

What Carrick has done is make football so simple for the players that they can play against anyone in any situation, as opposed to making everything confusing.

We don’t want to get carried away, but things look excellent for United right now, and there are no signs of stopping.
