Gabriel Martinelli emerged from the bench in the second half on Saturday to play his part in our 3-0 win that extended our advantage at the top of the Premier League table.
After an even first half hour, Martin Zubimendi fired us into the lead before the break, and we sealed the win with two goals from Viktor Gyokeres – the second of which owed a lot to another lung-busting run from Martinelli.
“In the Premier League it's always like that,” the Brazilian said afterwards. “As the game goes on, I think it starts to open up, I thought we did well.
“They had to attack, and it was a good hook from [Christian] Norgaard I think, and it was just me and the defender. I just tried to be quicker than him and get it to Vik.
“I told him the other day that I didn't mean to steal his goal! [against Kairat]. But I think I gave him two goals already, against Leeds and today, so he needs to give me one more!"
At the other end we kept a clean sheet – our 21st of the season from 39 games - and Gabi believes the whole team deserves credit for our defensive record.
“Yeah, I mean I think we run quite a lot as well up front! But yeah, amazing, Gabi, Saliba, Riccy, JT, Piero, Mosquera, everyone, they work so hard. And you can see the results. They're so good at defending, and it's hard to score against us."
