Tottenham receive ominous ‘drifting’ warning from Everton veteran after crushing 2-0 defeat to…

Tottenham suffered a chastening 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

10-man Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs were their own enemies, with skipper Cristian Romero undoing a good start to the game with a reckless challenge on Casemiro and getting sent off. The Red Devils capitalised on Romero’s straight red card to extend Tottenham’s wait for a first Premier League win of 2026.

Bryan Mbeumo scored from a well-worked corner shortly after the Lilywhites were reduced to 10 men, with Bruno Fernandes wrapping up a deserved 2-0 victory for the hosts. The result at Old Trafford stretched Tottenham’s winless start to 2026 in the Premier League and piled more misery on head coach Thomas Frank.

Leon Osman says Tottenham are drifting towards relegation

It was not a good afternoon for Spurs at Old Trafford. Romero ultimately ruined the game for the north Londoners before half-time, giving his teammates a mountain to climb by getting sent off for a challenge on Casemiro in the 29th minute.

The 2-0 defeat to Manchester United means Spurs have now won just two of their last 16 league outings. Thomas Frank is already under immense pressure, and the loss to a rejuvenated Man United side did not do any favours. It is now eight games in a row that Frank’s side have dropped points, which would not go down well with the Lewis Family.

Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman feels Tottenham are drifting towards the relegation zone, and eventually, Frank will be judged by his team’s position in the Premier League table.

“That’s seven without a win for Spurs in the Premier League, and ultimately that is where they are going to get judged. If they were seventh or eighth and building from there and results were doing against them at some stage, then that’s one thing, but they are drifting,” Leon Osman said on BBC Radio 5 Live (h/t BBC Sport).

“I’m not saying they are going to be involved in the relegation battle, but they are not far away from it, they have got to take that into consideration.”

Frank is in big trouble

Spurs are now level on points with Leeds United, who are considered relegation contenders. Things are not looking good at all for Frank, whose team faces Newcastle United and Arsenal next in the Premier League. The Dane has already lost trust within the fanbase, whilst being criticised regularly by the media and pundits.

The Tottenham hierarchy have a big decision to make on Frank’s future. Unfortunately, the sack is looming large for the 52-year-old.
