Kai Rooney, son of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, continued his stellar season by netting four goals in the Under-16s' 6-4 victory over Norwich City in the Premier League Cup semi-final. The 16-year-old, who made his Old Trafford debut last month, put on a remarkable performance, helping the young Reds secure their spot in the final.

Following the match, Kai took to Instagram to share a photo of himself holding the match ball and showing four fingers, indicating the number of goals he scored. He also re-shared a post from Rising Ballers, hinting at his potential future with the first team.

The post read: "Kai Rooney is different... Scored 4 goals today for United in the PL Cup semi‐final against Norwich... Been on fire recently... It won't be long until you see him in and around the first team... Goalscoring DNA runs in the family."

In another image shared on his story, Kai can be seen photographing the iconic No. 7 shirt - the same number he wears. This number holds significant importance in the club's history, having been worn by legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I'm my own person," Kai has previously stated. "I want to see how my career goes, obviously try to do the best I can and try to reach the biggest stages. I'm just focusing on me and trying not to let any pressure get to me, working on myself day by day, month by month."

The young winger's goals came hot on the heels of reports from The Sun and The Mail, claiming he had been offered a new £50,000-per-year scholarship deal by the club, alongside a 'very strong' group of other promising players.

However, Kai seemed to rubbish these claims on Instagram, posting: "Don't listen to Mail," accompanied by three laughing emojis.

United's interim head coach Michael Carrick was present at Old Trafford when Kai made his debut against Derby County's U18s in late January - a stadium he had frequented hundreds of times to watch his father play.

"My message of support is that I'm coming along to watch and I'm excited," Carrick expressed regarding his decision to attend.

"I was fortunate enough to play and win the FA Youth Cup when I was young at West Ham. It's such a crucial competition, particularly for this club.

"Young players, Old Trafford under the floodlights, feeling what it means, a bit of expectation."
