Agent of Leeds January target hints at explanation for failed Elland Road move

The agent of Jorgen Strand Larsen has opened up on January interest in his client.

Leeds were heavily linked with the Norway international during the winter transfer window, despite the strong form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Strand Larsen scoring just once for Wolves in the Premier League this season - adding a further five goals in cup competitions.

In the end, Strand Larsen moved to Crystal Palace for a whopping £43million plus £5m in add-ons, while Leeds had a quiet window, only signing Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Chelsea.

Agent opens up on Strand Larsen January move

Alongside Leeds and Palace, the likes of Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Aston Villa pursued Strand Larsen, with interest largely fuelled by his form from the 2024/25 campaign, when he notched a much healthier 14 goals and four assists in 35 Premier League appearances for Wolves.

Strand Larsen’s agent, Tore Pedersen, has revealed that he was working on potential moves for his player well in advance of the January window. In the end, it appears that Palace had the edge in negotiations, with Pedersen suggesting that other clubs missed out due to having to sell before buying anyone else.

“Things like this are worked on all year round. 365 days. When Wolves are struggling and Jørgen had a brilliant season last year, there are of course many who are interested in hearing what the status is. Strikers who are “Premier League proof” do not grow on trees,” Pedersen told VG.

“Jørgen was clear that he wanted to be in England. At that time, everything else was uninteresting, I have had phone calls with several clubs. Some show interest, others are more interested. Some are dependent on selling before they buy. That is the market.”

Do Leeds United need another striker?

In the end, Leeds fans likely won’t be too disappointed to see their side miss out on Strand Larsen, given the poor season he’s had so far and the massive fee Palace had to pay for his services.

What’s more, Calvert-Lewin has seriously clicked into gear at Elland Road, with his clinching goal in the 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Friday night his 10th in the Premier League this season, with nine of them coming since 29th November across his last 13 appearances.

Alongside DCL, Lukas Nmecha has chipped in with five goals, which is second only to his fellow striker among Leeds players, most recently netting a 91st-minute winner against Fulham in mid-January.

With that in mind, Daniel Farke will be satisfied with the striker options at his disposal until the end of the season at the very least.
