Spotted: Craig Hope says Newcastle star was absolutely "furious" with teammates vs Brentford

It was once again a night full of drama at St James' Park, as Newcastle United were handed another defeat and one Eddie Howe's stars were left "furious".

Newcastle suffer another defeat

It was all about the penalty spot as Brentford travelled to Tyneside. From the opening exchanges, the VAR team were handed plenty to do and were forced to deny Keane Lewis-Potter a spotkick, before Sven Botman found the opener 23 minutes later.

Coming somewhat against the run of play, Botman's effort did nothing to discourage Brentford, who soon hit back through Vitaly Janelt's header and Igor Thiago's controversial penalty before half-time.

The big moment of controversy came when the ball rebounded off the hand of Jacob Murphy, leaving the referee with little choice but to point to the spot. The winger may feel as though his arm was in a natural position, despite the fact that he was also booked after the decision.

Thiago certainly had no complaints, dispatching yet another penalty to score his 17th Premier League goal of the campaign. Once again, Newcastle found themselves behind after leading.

It perhaps summed the Magpies' fortunes up that, even after Bruno Guimaraes equalised from the spot, his side couldn't hold on for the draw. This time, it was Dango Outtara who had the final say, drilling his effort between the legs of Nick Pope to snatch all three points for the visitors.

After crashing out of the Carabao Cup courtesy of Manchester City's thrashing in midweek, defeat in the Premier League was the last thing that Howe needed. His side now sit as low as 12th.

Craig Hope spots "furious" Newcastle star

To say that it was a frustrating day at the office would be an understatement, but one player was left particularly angered with his teammates. The Daily Mail's Craig Hope spotted a "furious" Murphy, who was forced to initiate a press without his teammates - leading to the opening goal.

It's not something that Newcastle fans have become familiar with. No matter what, a trip to Tyneside featured an intense display, full of energy. This season, however, that's been anything but the case.

The pressure will be mounting on Howe, who will travel to Tottenham Hotspur in midweek desperately looking to secure all three points. Another defeat would only see Newcastle's European aims fade even further.
