Owen Hargreaves has claimed that Michael Carrick has finally fixed Manchester United’s midfield issue after praising Bruno Fernandes’ ‘ridiculous’ form. The Red Devils secured their fourth win in a row under their former star against 10-man Spurs.
Bryan Mbeumo got United off to the perfect start after Tottenham captain Cristian Romero was dismissed for a crunching challenge on Casemiro. Fernandes then doubled the lead to chalk up his 200th goal contribution for the club.
Former United star Hargreaves has now claimed that the club’s midfield is now their strength, having been a weakness under former boss Ruben Amorim. He also saved special praise for the Portuguese playmaker following his latest star showing.
Speaking on TNT Sports, he said: “Let’s be honest, 200 goal involvements is ridiculous. They’re Playstation numbers. He plays with risk but it’s risk that the team benefits from.
“Kobbie [Mainoo] in behind was fantastic again and Casemiro… those three were probably the three best players in the game, in my opinion.
“We said beforehand, under Ruben Amorim, that midfield was a weakness but that midfield three is really good.
“Obviously Bruno is the best player by a country mile and I just think they look so much stronger now as a midfield three.”
Fernandes though is not allowing his teammates to rest on his laurels and has claimed that they are now targeting a fifth consecutive win. He said: "When we win games the confidence goes higher and higher. It is very important for us to maintain the focus and not overdo it now.

“This is very good and very nice but we need to keep going. If you don't win the next one and the next one you will get back into the same place where you don't feel comfortable, you lose confidence and struggle to believe in everything you have been doing until now.
“But, we have been doing very well until now to do everything that Michael and the staff have been asking of us and we have been very brave taking responsibility in some moments in the game to go and play and do whatever you need to do to win the game. The main focus is the next game, it's four wins in a row, this one is nice, but we need to make it five now."
United are next back in action in midweek as they take on West Ham United at the London Stadium.
