Tottenham tried to hijack Bryan Mbeumo transfer, Man Utd star made them pay

Tottenham lost the race to sign Bryan Mbeumo in the summer, but it proved even more costly on Saturday as the Manchester United star contributed to Manchester United’s win over the north London outfit.

Manchester United made it four consecutive wins with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Tottenham in the Premier League.

The two teams were pretty even at the start of the game, though the balance shifted when Cristian Romero received a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Casemiro.

United immediately took advantage of the fact that Tottenham were reduced to 10 men by scoring nine minutes later, thanks to Bryan Mbeumo.

Although it took United until the end of the second half to double their lead, Carrick’s side dominated Tottenham and had multiple shots on goal.

The three points were secured when Bruno Fernandes scored to register his 200th goal contribution since joining United at the beginning of 2020.

It’s a result that brings Tottenham closer to the relegation zone. Thomas Frank will be kicking himself for multiple reasons.

Bryan Mbeumo made the right decision to join Man Utd over Tottenham

Mbeumo has quickly proven to be a brilliant signing for United, with a cost of £71 million, and nine goals to his name in the Premier League this season.

The latest goal – against Tottenham – came with an additional blow for the opponents because Frank tried to hijack United’s move for the former Brentford talisman.

Mbeumo had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer before Tottenham expressed an interest. There was a feeling at the time that Frank was trying to persuade the Cameroon international to form a reunion with him in north London.

The 26-year-old saw the light and decided to sign for United, where he has already become a star in the team.

Carrick has started Mbeumo in his first three games since returning to the club as head coach, with the Cameroonian forward rewarding him each time.

Across all competitions, Mbeumo has scored 10 goals. He will be eyeing a strong end to the season in a bid to help the Red Devils secure Champions League qualification.

That’s significantly better than signing for Tottenham and ending up in a relegation scrap.

Bryan Mbeumo’s record against the ‘Big Six’

The ‘big six’ is a term that gets passed around quite a bit, although it is bound to raise questions when it involves Tottenham.

Tottenham are sitting in the bottom half of the table, closer to the relegation zone than the top six, but TNT Sports felt the need to include them on social media after the match.

The purpose for doing so was to show Mbeumo’s impressive record against Liverpool, Tottenham, Man City and Arsenal this season.

Mbeumo has scored against all of the teams, including both games against Tottenham.
