Newcastle United injuries: Lewis Miley, Anthony Gordon, Fabian Schar, Joelinton, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth missed Saturday’s defeat due to injury.
Newcastle United’s injury problems are showing no signs of easing further despite welcoming Bruno Guimaraes back against Brentford on Saturday.
The Brazilian grabbed a goal and an assist on his return to the side but it wasn’t enough to stop The Magpies falling to a 3-2 defeat at St James’ Park.
Guimaraes had missed Newcastle’s previous four matches following an ankle injury picked up against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last month.
Newcastle have also been without Fabian Schar for the past month due to an ankle injury that required surgery. The problem is set to keep the defender out until the back end of the season.
Though he was spotted at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Newcastle United star spotted on crutches at St James’ Park
Schar watched the match from the stands at St James’ Park but was pictured arriving at the stadium on crutches following surgery on his ankle.
The 34-year-old watched on as Newcastle made it 10 goals conceded in three games as they fell to another defeat.
In his latest update on Schar’s injury issued last month, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe claimed that the defender is expected to be out for around three months.
“He had a successful surgery,” Howe said. “Everything went according to plan. I think it's difficult to give a definitive [timeline], but around three months out will be the diagnosis we'll work towards.
“If it's any quicker, then great, but we need to give Fabian time to recover.”
Newcastle United injury latest as key duo miss out
In addition to Schar, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth have been injury issues in defence for Newcastle. Livramento is set to be out for around another month with a hamstring injury while Krafth hasn’t been part of a matchday squad in three months due to a knee issue.
Joelinton is closing in on a return to action following a groin injury picked up against Aston Villa last month.
Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon and Lewis Miley missed out against Brentford after recent injury blows.
Gordon suffered a suspected hamstring injury in the defeat at Manchester City while Miley missed the Brentford game with an ongoing leg issue that has left him unable to bend his knee properly.
“With the players you lose to injury, your psyche gets damaged slightly,” Howe explained. “So we have to look at ourselves and show real character, real strength, because that's the only way we need players to perform at their best levels.”
While both injuries are expected to be short-term, Howe provided a worrying update looking ahead to Tuesday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
When asked if any players could be back for the trip to the capital, Howe said: “I don't think so, no, I'm not aware on that.”
