Will Rutter get preferred role as Gomez and O'Riley return to the frame?

He made that choice after losing Georginio Rutter to a season-ending injury in the previous week’s FA Cup tie with Nottingham Forest.

Hurzeler suddenly has that option again as Palace visit the Amex.

O’Riley was used in that role, more or less, through pre-season and in the first two games of the Premier League campaign.

Now back from a loan at Marseille, he comes into the thinking.

The more likely starting option, however, seems to be Rutter, which would be a wiser move than last week’s role on the right.

Rutter could get a rough ride from Palace fans given his part in a VAR penalty incident at Selhurst Park earlier this season.

But a No.10 role would give him the best platform to silence any jeers from the South Stand.

Out wide, the most attacking scenario would be starts for both genuine wingers in Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh.

But a more likely starting option could be fit-again Diego Gomez out to the right.

With no Yasin Ayari, it seems Carlos Baleba and Pascal Gross could team up in midfield.

There is a potential alternative which sees Jack Hinshelwood join Baleba with Gross playing further forward, as he has done of late.

Joel Veltman usually enjoys a Palace game and he looks a contender to return on the right of defence.

Possible Albion XI: Verbruggen; Veltman, van Hecke, Dunk, Kadioglu; Baleba, Gross; Gomez, Rutter, Mitoma; Welbeck.
