Man Utd“Really Like”14 G/A Newcastle Star As Surprise Diomande Alternative Emerges

Man Utd have identified Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon as a potential transfer target, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Speaking to The United Stand YouTube channel, Jacobs said that the 24-year-old is a player that the club could pursue if alternatives prove too expensive:

“There’s appreciation for Yan Diomande, who’s a very versatile player. Leipzig are kind of grandstanding at the moment and saying that’s a €100m sale.”

“Manchester United really like Antony Gordon as well as a potential option, especially knowing that the player actually relishes the chance to have more game time through the centre as a number 9.”

Gordon has had a decent season

It’s fair to say that the England international has been pretty erratic this campaign. His form in the Champions League has been outstanding, with 6 goals and 2 assists in 8 group matches.

However, Gordon’s performances domestically have been mediocre to put it mildly. He has scored just 3 times in the Premier League (with a solitary assist), while he recorded a goal and an assist in the FA Cup third round against Bournemouth last month.

Why Man Utd may decide against a move for Diomande

It had been reported by several sources that RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is high up the list of targets for the summer transfer window.

However, as Jacobs mentions, the Ivorian’s current asking price is very steep, while there will be plenty of competition for his signature too, with Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham all linked.

As well as Gordon, the likes of AC Milan’s Rafael Leao and Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye have come under consideration. Tyrique George’s name was also mentioned as a possible option, but he left Chelsea for Everton during the last transfer window. The Toffees have secured his services on loan with an option to buy.
