'We are certain' - Bruno Guimaraes issues passionate Newcastle United statement after 3-2 defeat

Bruno Guimaraes marked his return from injury with a goal for Newcastle United as they lost 3-2 to Brentford at St James’ Park.

Bruno Guimaraes made his return for Newcastle United after four games out with an ankle injury, but couldn’t stop the side falling to a 3-2 defeat against Brentford.

Guimaraes grabbed an equaliser from the penalty spot after Vitaly Janelt and Igor Thiago cancelled out Sven Botman’s opener.

Newcastle looked to push for a winner in the closing stages but ended up being undone once again by The Bees as Dango Ouattara thrashed in a third for Brentford to secure the win with five minutes of normal time remaining.

It marked a third straight Premier League defeat for Newcastle as the boos rang out at St James’ Park following the full-time whistle.

Bruno Guimaraes issues social media statement following injury return & defeat

After the loss, which leaves Newcastle sitting 12th in the Premier League table, Guimaraes took to Instagram to issue a statement reflecting on his return from injury and arguably the toughest run of form he’s experienced since his arrival at the club four years ago.

“Delighted to be back almost three weeks after my last injury,” Guimaraes wrote. “I know, and we all know, our responsibility as players, and that things are not happening the way we would like.

“I believe that in these four years together, this is the first time we are going through a real dip in form. We have to work harder, because difficult moments are always opportunities for us to become better than we have ever been.

“There is still a lot ahead of us, but we are certain that inside our club, no one will let go of anyone, and we will give everything to enjoy better days.

“Special thanks to the club’s physios for getting me back fit in record time, as well as my staff for helping me return to the pitch as quickly as possible. Howay NUFC.”

Eddie Howe makes big admission following NUFC defeat

While Guimaraes took some of the responsibility on behalf of the players, head coach Eddie Howe came out and admitted he needs to perform better at Newcastle.

“I've got to think long and hard about my efforts,” Howe said. “I can't question that of myself, but I think I've got to work better.

“I've got to do more, I've got to take full responsibility for everything you see on the pitch and I've got to work out solutions.

“So, I think that's for me to do and then of course I have to ask the same from the players. I have to ask them to be really honest with themselves and look at their best level and judge how they're playing against that now, in this current moment.

“There's too many that can say they're playing towards their best. So, I think that then gives us growth to improve.

“The pressure I put on myself couldn't be more extreme because I demand really high standards from what I'm doing, how I work, what I ask the players to do. I'm obviously not doing my job well enough at the moment.”
