'Absolutely not' - Eddie Howe disagrees with Alan Shearer as Newcastle United boss 'under…

Eddie Howe has admitted he is under pressure as Newcastle United head coach following Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford.

Eddie Howe and Alan Shearer had their say on whether the Newcastle United head coach was under pressure following three straight defeats.

The Magpies have conceded 10 goals in the last three matches, being knocked out of the Carabao Cup and dropping to 12th in the Premier League table in the process.

Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford made it 19 points dropped from winning positions in the Premier League for Howe’s side this season, the most of any side.

And after setting the bar high with 4th, 7th and 5th place finishes as well as a Carabao Cup win in his first three full seasons in charge, Howe has experienced a regression from his side so far this campaign.

The loss to Brentford sparked the first time under Howe’s tenure that audible boos rang out at half-time and full-time at St James’ Park.

Alan Shearer insists Eddie Howe ‘is not under pressure’

Speaking via BBC Sport after the match, Newcastle legend and pundit Alan Shearer claimed Howe was not under pressure in terms of facing the sack at the club.

“Clearly things aren’t good enough currently, but for me Eddie Howe is not under pressure,” Shearer said.

“The signings in the summer, apart from Malick Thiaw, have not been good enough and hit anything like top form. They simply haven't justified the money that was spent on them as yet and that has hindered Howe.

“Like any manager, things need to get better and they need to turn a corner, but in terms of him losing his job, absolutely not.”

Eddie Howe responds to ‘under pressure’ claim

When asked if he feels under pressure at Newcastle, Howe somewhat disagreed with Shearer’s claim by commenting: “I always feel under pressure. It's irrelevant to me, the type of pressure.

“I think when you're in this job, you're always in that moment. Whether it's pressure to win and keep winning or whether it's pressure to turn around results. We're very much in that feeling.

“I've always said the pressure I put on myself couldn't be more extreme because I demand really high standards from what I'm doing, how I work, what I ask the players to do. I'm obviously not doing my job well enough at the moment.”
