Wolves have bagged a profit by selling one of their biggest summer signings
Arias arrived in the summer for a figure of £15m, making him one of the most high-profile additions of the window following the departures of Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo.
Prior to signing for the Old Gold, he’d won three major honours including the Copa Libertadores, which is essentially the South American equivalent of the Champions League. He achieved the feat whilst playing alongside current Wolves ace Andre.
Jhon Arias leaves Wolves for tidy profit
Arias has agreed a permanent move back to Brazilian football with Palmeiras.
The Sao Paulo-based outfit are currently second in the Série A after two matches and have brought Arias back to the club to boost their chances of success.
What went wrong for Jhon Arias?
Arias spent seven months as a Wolves player, turning out 26 times across all competitions and chipping in with two goals.
The experienced midfielder featured in all but one Premier League match after his move and was included in the starting lineup on 14 occasions, with his one league goal coming against West Ham in a thumping 3-0 Premier League win - the club’s only league victory of the season so far in what has been a bleak campaign.
Other than that, his only goal contributions came against fourth-tier Shrewsbury Town in a 6-1 FA Cup win as he registered both a goal and assist in the same match.
Overall, Arias struggled to find confidence in a team underperforming and failed to hit the same heights as the highly talented Cunha, who he was signed to replace.
Nevertheless he leaves for a profit, presenting decent business from a financial perspective as Wolves begin plans for a transformative summer which is likely to be based around winning promotion for the second-tier barring a dramatic and unprecedented turnaround in the league.
