Bryan Mbeumo praised Jonny Evans for his role in Manchester United's corner routine that led to his goal against Tottenham. Mbeumo opened the scoring shortly after Cristian Romero's sending off.

Spurs made a bright start to the game at Old Trafford, but Romero was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Casemiro, which handed United a huge advantage.

Mbeumo fired United into the lead in the 34th minute and Bruno Fernandes wrapped up the victory with 10 minutes to play. Michael Carrick has overseen four wins from four matches since his appointment.

Mbeumo spoke to reporters in the mixed zone after the final whistle. He was asked about the clever corner routine, which involved Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, and said: "It was the coach who wanted to practice this in training. We did it once, it didn't work out, but this one was the most important."

When asked to clarify whether it was Michael Carrick, or a member of the backroom staff who practised the routine in training, Mbeumo said: "It was Jonny Evans who was coming to me and the guys."

Carrick also highlighted Kaita Hasegawa's role in the corner routine during his post-match press conference. Hasegawa is an important member of the first-team analyst team.

Mbeumo was asked about United's improvement and said: "I just feel we built on what we were doing from the start because I don't think it was that bad as a lot of people felt.

"We just worked together, make the effort together, with a big mentality, and we're never beaten. Even if someone gets past, we come back to support and just try to give it all.

"We just want to take it game by game, train as hard as possible and yeah, we just want to keep working as a team."

The Cameroon international also thanked United fans for the support. "It's a big club, the fans are a massive community and we feel that when we get onto the pitch," he said. "We want to make them happy, so we just try to use their energy that they give us and try to give our best."
