Skinner admits being in awe of United's game-changers as league-topping stat emerges after Leicester win

Manchester United Women head coach Marc Skinner has praised the impact of substitutes following Saturday’s 2-0 victory against Leicester City.

United beat Leicester

United moved four points clear of third-placed Chelsea in the WSL table as they secured three points at the expense of Leicester on Saturday.

Julia Zigiotti Olme broke the deadlock in the 13th minute beforeElisabeth Terland came on from the bench to net a second and wrap up the victory in the dying embers of proceedings.

The Red Devils were largely comfortable, dominating possession and fashioning chance after chance.

The victory marked United’s third in a row in the WSL, which is the club’s best run since winning seven in a row between 8 December 2024 and 2 March 2025.

After the final whistle, an impressive statistic emerged – United’s substitutes have contributed to 10 of their 33 WSL goals this season, a league-leading tally for impact off the bench. Skinner spoke to Sky Sports and expressed his delight, adding that he is keen for the trend to carry on.

Skinner’s remarks

The United boss said [as quoted by United’s website], “Some stats are flying about… most goal involvements from substitute appearances and also the away form that we’re finding.”

“We signed players to give us depth for variation, for adaptation to games, and those players that came in today, and the players that didn’t come in today will give us that.”

“All in all, I can be really pleased be with the result, because that’s what we’re chasing. I want performances, but we need to be ready with those results and then keep pressure on at the top.”

Terland also opened up on the result.

The striker told Sky, “I knew I didn’t have that much time on the pitch today. I just had to show what I’m capable of.”

“I think we’ve brought in some quality, which obviously gives a bit of competition, but I think I’m a player that wants to show that I want to play as much as I think I should and I did that today. I do what I can control, but then I think the players do the job in the first half as well.”

United are next in action on Thursday when they face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
