Illan Meslier decision made and setback as Leeds United man given rare minutes alongside…

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has not played a single minute of first team football so far this season.

Illan Meslier has been given rare minutes alongside Leeds United’s youngsters outing - but ultimately ending in disappointment for the keeper and the club’s under-21s.

Former first choice stopper Meslier has not played a single minute of first team football all season, the Frenchman falling behind summer signing Lucas Perri and then Karl Darlow in the pecking order.

The Frenchman made the bench for the Premier League clashes against Fulham, Wolves, Bournemouth and Tottenham at the start of the season and also for November’s defeat at Manchester City but without getting any gametime, even in the Carabao Cup.

Summer signing Perri began the season as the club’s new first choice keeper with Darlow as back-up but boss Daniel Farke dropped Perri after last month’s 4-3 defeat at Newcastle United and Darlow has since started his side’s last four games in goal.

With Meslier still not involved, Leeds took the decision to give the 25-year-old keeper some rare minutes for the club’s under-21s on Saturday evening in a Premier League 2 clash at Manchester City at the club’s Joie Stadium.

Meslier started the match and played the full duration of the game but the night ultimately ended in a setback for Scott Gadner’s side who suffered a 3-0 defeat.
