A growing number of Newcastle United supporters believe Eddie Howe should be sacked after the defeat to Brentford.
Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson delivered a vote of confidence to Eddie Howe last week amid growing uncertainty over his future.
For the first time as Toon boss, the 48-year-old is under pressure. Just one win in eight for across all competitions has the Magpies sitting 12th in the Premier League.
Boos echoed around St James’ Park at the full-time whistle as Newcastle lost 3-2 to Brentford. To make matters worse, Newcastle’s next four games (Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Qarabag) are all away from home.
‘Eddie is our man’ - David Hopkinson
Speaking to talkSPORT last week, new CEO Hopkinson backed Howe to turn the tide as manager. It must be noted that these comments came before recent defeats to Man City and Brentford.
“He's an extraordinary manager,” Hopkinson said. “We just talked about how much he's envied by other clubs and the national program, so with all due respect to Simon (Jordan), I could not disagree more.
“Then I guess he won’t be going to work with Simon anytime soon. But Eddie is our man and he has our total support here. Eddie has been a phenomenal partner to me since the day I met him. He certainly seems like a man very focused on what he's doing at Newcastle.
“His work rate is incredible. I really like the partnership that I have with him that Ross has with him. Eddie consistently indicates to us how happy he is here.
“Again, I see someone operating with high, high, high conviction. I'm someone who pays a lot of attention to what people say, but I pay even more attention to what they do and I see someone very leaned in and very focused. Eddie's not in the room, but I know Eddie is 100 per cent devoted to what's going to happen tonight in Manchester (Carabao Cup last week) and I'm really happy with the job (he is doing).”

Eddie Howe takes Newcastle United responsibility
Speaking after the Brentford defeat, Howe told reporters: “I think there's a harsh reality for me. I think I've got to think long and hard about, not my efforts, I can't question that myself, but I think I've got to work better, I've got to do more. I've got to take full responsibility for everything you see on the pitch and I've got to work out solutions.
“I think that's for me to do and then of course I have to ask the same from the players. I have to ask them to be really honest with themselves and look at their best level and judge how they're playing against that now in this current moment.
“I don't think there's too many that can say that they're playing towards their best. so I think that then gives us growth to improve.”
