Bruno Fernandes was back at his very best at Old Trafford as Manchester United beat Tottenham in the Premier League.

Michael Carrick made it four straight wins in the Premier League since his appointment as Manchester United interim head coach.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring from a brilliantly-worked set piece, and Bruno Fernandes doubled United’s lead in the second half.

Fernandes is chasing the Premier League assist record this season, and while he didn’t add to his tally against Tottenham, he completed six passes and created one big chance – all while scoring his sixth goal of the season.

The Portuguese playmaker is in incredible form, and United fans loved what they saw from their captain at Old Trafford.

One reader wrote: “Typical”, which perfectly sums up just how high Fernandes has set expectations at United.

Another wrote: “Mint,” before adding: “What a player Bruno is. He genuinely has been robbed of several Premier League [titles]. He deserves to win one with this club.”

A third commented: “Inevitable”, while a fourth slightly bent the rules, writing: “World-Class. (Yes I know it’s technically two words)”.

Finally, one reader summed up Fernandes’ performance as: “TALISMANIC”.

Bruno Fernandes is the heart of this Manchester United side

As the club captain, Fernandes is the face of this United side, and under Michael Carrick, he has been returned to a No.10 role where he is positionally at the heart of the team.

Fernandes’ ability to find space, turn and creatively find a teammate is priceless, and it explains why he is not only the leading assist-maker in the Premier League, but why he has dominated the ‘chances created’ table since arriving in Manchester.

He was unlucky to leave Old Trafford without an assist on Saturday. It was Fernandes who kicked off the corner routine for Mbeumo’s opener, and he found Benjamin Sesko in acres of space in the final seconds, only for the Slovenian to head the ball straight at the goalkeeper.

With talk of Fernandes and Saudi Arabia still circulating, it should be at the very top of Ineos’ priority list to tie the Portuguese star to a new deal – regardless of cost.
