Last month saw Jamaal Lascelles leave Newcastle United after almost 12 years at the club.
Signed in 2014, the 32-year-old is set to join Leicester City having enjoyed a roller-coaster ride from the Championship to Champions League. But he is not the only Toon veteran whose days at St James’ Park could be numbered - with three other stars entering the final months of their contracts.
As for incomings, the January transfer window went by without a whisper of a Newcastle arrival. Toon chiefs were wary of PSR restrictions - the bane of the Saudi-backed era at St James’ Park.
All of the onus has been placed on the summer - putting the shot-callers under pressure to deliver given the stuttering campaign. Defeat to Brentford left the Magpies sitting 12th in the Premier League - with boos echoing around the stadium as some fans began venting their frustration at Eddie Howe
While the PSR issue is contentious, what the Newcastle hierarchy can control is contracts. As it stands, three senior first-team stars are set to leave the club at the end of the campaign.
With the trio well into their 30s, the powers that be on Tynesidehave big decisions to be made, especially given the cost of their potential replacements. Who would you keep? And who will follow Lascelles out of the exit door? NewcastleWorld has profiled the contracts list in full.
