Fabian Hurzeler responds to sacking chants as Brighton boss suffers another dismal defeat

Fabian Hurzeler has responded to criticism from Brighton supporters following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

The loss leaves the Seagulls with just one win in their last 12 Premier League matches, slipping to 14th in the table and just eight points above the relegation zone.

Brighton’s poor form has been a source of frustration among some Seagulls fans, with chants of ‘you’re being sacked in the morning’ and ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ being aimed at Hurzeler as a result.

Speaking to The Argus about those jibes, the ex-St. Pauli boss said: “It’s not about me personally. It’s always about the club, and I’m here to help the club. I’m here to achieve, together with my team, the best for this club, and I really enjoy working with the club.

“But, of course, if you know how much effort you give into things, if you know how much you’re there for the team, it’s not an easy situation to take. But, in the end, I will absorb the criticism.”

Hurzeler then called for supporters to still rally behind the squad, regardless of their feelings towards him.

He continued: “For me, it’s fine if they criticise me as long as they support the team, because I think our team, they need the support. A lot of players are a young age, a lot of players are struggling at the moment with the situation.

“Therefore, it’s fine if they find the person in me to blame because, in the end, I’m responsible as long as they support the team, and I think they supported the team in a great way today.

“That’s what I see as a positive, and being criticised for not getting the right result. I think we all agree, it’s part of the job.”

Hurzeler will be hoping that his side can bounce back from their dismal defeat when they take on Aston Villa on Wednesday.
