The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies prepare for the summer transfer window.
There was some disappointment from Newcastle United supporters when the Magpies failed to add to their squad during the January transfer window.
The frustration over the lack of activity has only been heightened by Premier League defeats against Liverpool and Brentford and a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City that brought an end to the Magpies defence of the Carabao Cup in midweek.
Saturday’s defeat against Brentford exposed several deficiencies within Eddie Howe’s squad and they will need to be addressed during the summer transfer window. Summer signings Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade made little impact against the Bees as they continue to struggle at the top end of the pitch and there would be little surprise if the Magpies were to add another striker to their squad during the close season.
One striker that has been linked with a move to St James Park in recent weeks is Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic, who has scored 64 goals in 162 appearances in all competitions since joining Juve from Serie A rivals Fiorentina in January 2022. The Serbian international is now in the final six months of his current deal and will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season if no agreement over a new contract can be found.
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has stated the striker will be ‘high on the lists’ of a number of clubs - but stressed Newcastle may need to qualify for the Champions League if they are to secure his services.
He told the Transfer Insider podcast: “Anybody who’s needing a striker in the summer transfer window, which I’m sure there’ll be plenty of clubs, Vlahovic will be high up on those lists because he has been a proven goalscorer for Juventus over the years.
“He’s still only 26 as well, so he’s at a good age coming to the prime of his career for Newcastle. Whether they could win that race for him…that remains to be seen. Could they offer him Champions League football? We don’t know if that’s going to be a possibility or not, and I’m sure Vlahovic himself will be looking to play at the highest level possible.”

The midfielder has experienced a below-par run of form in recent months - but that has not prevented the Premier League leaders from showing an interest in securing his services. Newcastle moved quickly to deny talk of a departure for Tonali and Eddie Howe revealed he has spoken to the former AC Milan star to ensure he is focused on helping his side break out of a desperately disappointing run of form.
However, there are now reports claiming the Magpies are considering a move for former Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton as part of a contingency plan in case Tonali is tempted away by an offer during the summer transfer window. CaughtOffside have claimed United are battling Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest for the Lyon star’s signature as he continues to impress with the Ligue 1 club.
