Manchester United join race to sign highly rated£50m Premier League star after breakthrough campaign

Manchester United have joined a growing list of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on a 21-year-old who has impressed for his club this campaign.

Manchester United’s defence is an area of the pitch that has been relatively solid throughout the campaign, and especially sturdy under the stewardship of Michael Carrick. However, many players in the defence are ageing and would need to be moved on for United to make the next step forward.

Diogo Dalot is a player who splits opinion in the fanbase, but it is generally agreed that the 26-year-old’s inconsistent performances are not strong enough to keep him as part of the club’s long-term plans going into the future.

Noussair Mazraoui is another player who had a great start to life at Old Trafford, but a mixture of injuries and AFCON have meant he has not become a consistent starter in the side, and when he has played, it has not always been down the right-hand side.

The bottom line is that United’s right back options are few and far between, with not much cover in the position if one of the players already mentioned were to be injured. Patrick Dorgu is a young full-back who has recently been injured, but before showed his talent after being trusted down the left-hand side by Carrick.

It seems the higher-ups are trying to recreate this success on the opposite side of the pitch, by eyeing up a talented 21-year-old currently shining in the Premier League.

Manchester United interested in Brentford’s Michael Kayode

Michael Kayode has been added to United’s defensive shortlist after impressing for Brentford, who sit seventh in the Premier League this season. A serious overachievement for a side that were tipped to be relegation favourites this season after the departure of their long-term manager, Thomas Frank,

According to TEAMtalk, both Manchester United and Newcastle United have entered the race to sign the Under-21’s Italian international in the upcoming summer transfer window. United are aiming for Kayode as he fits in with the clubs long-term transfer policy.

Brentford are aware of the potential and current ability of the right-back possesses, after paying £15m for Kayode from Fiorentina. The Bees now see him valued in excess of £50m, which demonstrates how quickly he has become a key part of Brentford’s success this season.

Kayode is not currently pushing for a move, but interest from European giants such as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-German and Bayern Munich could potentially sway the young defender when we enter the start of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United will have to battle against some of the world’s biggest sides if they were to secure his signature, and potentially pay a hefty price tag.

Is INEOS’s transfer policy working

Since INEOS have arrived at Manchester United, their transfer policy has been one of the main talking points, seeing some fans praise them for trying to sign a mix of players with Premier League experience, as well as promising youngsters.

Whilst other fans, especially after the January window that has just passed, criticising them for not bringing in players when the team is in dire need of back-up under Ruben Amorim.

Players like Dorgu and Senne Lammens are both examples of young players brought into the club under INEOS who have been a success, whilst others like Benjamin Sesko and Leny Yoro have not yet found their feet since making the move to Manchester.

However, seeing as United are currently on a run of four-straight wins, fans would have to agree that the higher-ups at the club have got the majority of the recent signings right and provide a solid foundation for United going forward.
