Man United table£34 million bid for Real Madrid defender

Manchester United’s fine start to life under Michael Carrick continued on Saturday as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes earned Carrick a fourth successive victory since taking charge last month, with Spurs reduced to ten men in the first half when centre-back Cristian Romero was dismissed.

United now sit fourth in the top flight table and are on courser to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Although Carrick was only appointed as caretaker head coach at Old Trafford, the ex England midfielder is quickly building a fine reputation and may have positioned himself well to be given the role on a permanent basis.

In the meantime, it has emerged that the Manchester club are eyeing a move for a La Liga defender.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, via TEAMtalk, Manchester United have made an offer of around £34 million for Real Madrid defender Eder Militao.

The report claims that the Manchester outfit have identified the Brazil international as a possible transfer target as they look to bolster their squad, and an opening offer has already been made.

Militao, 28, has played 189 times for Real since joining the Spanish giants from Portuguese outfit Porto back in 2019.

The Brazilian is widely regarded as one of the most reliable central defenders in Spain, but it is claimed that Real are ‘considering’ United’s offer for the player.

Militao is currently sidelined with a muscle problem, and has had several lengthy injury problems in recent years including two ACL tears.

Despite this, the report suggests that Man United are keen to add the Brazil international to their ranks this summer.

The defender’s contract with Real Madrid is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
