One player just had his worst weekend since signing for Everton, now he must respond - opinion

Everton recorded a great victory at the weekend against Fulham, but one player at the club needs to respond after a tough past few days.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall starred for the Toffees as they came from behind to win 2-1 against Fulham, a result that lifted the club to eighth.

It was only the second time Everton have come back to win an away Premier League game in the last three seasons.

Give us your gut feeling… will Everton make it into Europe? 🌍

Everton must now back it up, with Bournemouth the visitors at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Tuesday.

The feeling is good at the moment, and there is real optimism about Everton’s push for European football.

However, last week wasn’t so great for Tyler Dibling – and the youngster needs to find a big response.

He joined in the summer from Southampton for £40 million and naturally, given the fee, big things were expected.

But Dibling has really struggled to convince David Moyes to start him regularly.

The Scot has mainly handed him substitute appearances. And when Dibling has played, he’s mainly operated from the right side, which may not be so ideal for him.

Arguably, Dibling just had his toughest weekend yet as an Everton player.

How can Tyler Dibling actually turn things around at Everton? 🤷‍♂️

It's going to need some turnaround from the youngster 😫

Ahead of the game with Fulham, Moyes sent a rather brutal message to Dibling, suggested he needs to ‘pull his finger out’. He said: “I’d be thinking I better pull my finger out and show the manager what I was really about.

“If you want to be at the elite end of football then the competition is stiff and you have to live with that. The one thing Tyler has got on his side is that he is young.

“He is quite a quiet boy who might take more time to settle in, but he needs to show when he gets the opportunities.”

Dibling again found himself on the bench for Everton against Fulham, and the frustrating thing for him was that Harrison Armstrong – a natural central midfielder – was shoehorned into the right midfield position.

His woes then continued, with Moyes putting on new signing Tyrique George. Dibling, having seemingly fallen further in the pecking order, did not get on.

Dibling has to respond

For one reason or another it just hasn’t happened for Dibling yet in an Everton shirt.

But the comments from Moyes ahead of the game with Fulham were somewhat concerning, and suggest he isn’t doing enough to warrant starts at the moment.

Moyes didn’t need to say what he said publicly. The fact he did may have been a calculated move to try and light a fire beneath the youngster.

Dibling was being spoken about as one of the best young English talents in the country last year.

It’s been a tricky start for him but he can still make a success of his time at Everton, and must use this latest series of setbacks as fuel.

Evertonians are ready and waiting to take a player of his talent to their hearts, he just needs to make it happen for himself.
