Newcastle United injuries: Lewis Miley and Anthony Gordon are closing in on returns for Newcastle ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
On Saturday, The Magpies suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Brentford as they dropped to 12th in the Premier League table. With 13 league games left, Eddie Howe’s side sit 10 points off the top five and 10 points above the relegation zone.
The side were without Anthony Gordon (hamstring), Lewis Miley (leg), Joelinton (groin), Tino Livramento (hamstring), Fabian Schar (ankle) and Emil Krafth (knee) for the match but did welcome back captain Bruno Guimaraes after four games out with an ankle injury. The Brazilian grabbed a goal and an assist in the match but it wasn’t enough to end the side’s losing streak.

‘Massive game’ for NUFC
Howe was visibly dejected following Saturday’s match and has since reflected on his side’s performance, looking ahead to the trip to Spurs.
“I always try to be honest, whether we've played well or played badly and try and give my honest feedback to you guys,” Howe said. “I think that's important. I was really disappointed on Saturday with the result.
“Yeah, we tried to take ownership of that and now we're focused on the future and I think hopefully a good day's training today and a massive game tomorrow.”
Newcastle United injury update
Howe is hoping to have Miley and Gordon back available for him sooner rather than later but the duo remain doubts for the trip to London this week.
“Miley I need to see today,” Howe said in his pre-match press conference. “We’ll get another update on his progress. He got a nasty bang to his leg, so it was like a sort of dead leg that’s dragged on a little bit longer than we thought. So we’ll see how he is.
“Gordon we’ll make a check on today and see how he’s progressing. Hopefully a big improvement in him.”
Joelinton has missed Newcastle’s last four matches with a groin issue and has been to see a specialist in Barcelona. After being given an initial three-week recovery timeframe, Howe confirmed that Tuesday’s match would come too soon for The Brazilian.
