Leeds United defender injury revealed as team news emerges for Chelsea visit

Daniel Farke has provided his Leeds United team news for Tuesday’s trip to Chelsea.

Leeds United have lost a centre-back to injury ahead of a difficult trip to Chelsea on Tuesday night.

The Whites celebrated a vital 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest at Elland Road last Friday but it did not come without a cost. Centre-half Pascal Struijk finished the game, yet did so with a hip issue that will keep him out of the visit to Stamford Bridge.

Leeds also lost Anton Stach to a hip problem prior to the win over Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on Friday night. The German has become an important part of Daniel Farke's midfield, along with a key set-piece taker.

But Ilia Gruev and Dominic Calvert-Lewin should both be available for the midweek game despite a facial injury and illness respectively.

"Both seem to be available," said Farke. "Dominic was struggling a little with illness but I hope it's not too bad and he will be available.

“Problems with his hip flexor and will definitely miss this game”

“Bad news with Pascal, he's got some problems with his hip flexor and will definitely miss this game. Anton Stach will be back probably just for the [Aston] Villa game. Apart from this I hope to have everyone available."

Leeds welcomed Dan James back from a hamstring injury in the win over Forest and though Facundo Buonanotte was not included in the matchday squad that was simply a selection preference by Farke.

Both Jaka Bijol and Lukas Nmecha also came back from injuries for the Forest game but remained unused substitutes.

"Just a reaction on what was needed," Farke explained. "Lukas just had two sessions before the game, the day before and the morning of the game day.

“He looked sharp I had to say but due to the fact we were in the lead I didn't want to take too much risk. We wanted Dominic on the pitch defending crosses in the last minutes, I didn't want to take our best player in the air out.

“With Jaka he was out for nearly three weeks and had just three training days, the natural thing you don't change too much on the centre-back position."
