Wayne Rooney delivers Thomas Frank sack verdict and says Spurs boss has 'aged 10 years'

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank looks like he has 'aged 10 years', according to former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooner.

Frank succeeded Ange Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium helm last summer despite the Australian's Europa League success.

However, Spurs' league form and a 17th-placed finish saw the Australian relieved of his duties.

And despite a bright start to life under former Brentford boss Frank, the Dane is under mounting pressure to turn the club's form around.

A 2-0 loss at United on Saturday means Spurs have won only two of their last 16 league matches, those coming against London opposition Brentford and Crystal Palace.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney has admitted that Frank looks 'tired' as the 52-year-old looks to haul Spurs out of their current predicament.

Frank's 'aged 10 years'

"I feel for Thomas Frank because he looks tired, he looks like he's aged 10 years," Rooney said

"That's what that Tottenham job has done to him in a short period of time.

"I hope they stick with him because he's a fantastic manager, but I think it's going to be very difficult for them to do that."

Defeat at United on Saturday combined with wins for Leeds, West Ham and Crystal Palace over the weekend leaves Spurs just six points clear of the dropzone ahead of the midweek round of matches.

And Rooney believes that Spurs, whether they like it or not, are in the midst of a relegation dogfight.

"You'd have to say they are [in a relegation battle] with their current form," Rooney continued.

"West Ham have been in form, Nottingham Forest pick up results here and there. You can't think that they're not in a relegation battle where they are.

"I think they'll definitely be looking over their shoulders."

Romer-no

Spurs weren't helped at Old Trafford by Cristian Romero's first half red card at the weekend.

Romero's momentum carried through to Casemiro, who was on the receiving end of a studs-up challenge to his ankle as the Argentine looked to make a pass.

The Argentina international was shown his marching orders and must now serve a four-match ban, starting with Tuesday's welcome of Newcastle.

Many were quick to criticise Romero following his dismissal, but Rooney felt the red was 'harsh' though does appreciate why the Spurs skipper was shown his marching orders.

"I can see why it's been given but I think it's a little bit harsh," Rooney said.

"Sometimes you lose your head at times. And I think he's done that throughout his time at Tottenham."

Romero's red comes just days after he took to Instagram to aim a dig at the board once the January transfer window closed.

Spurs signed Conor Gallagher and Souza last month, yeah are enduring a significant injury crisis, which leaves Frank short of senior options.

Romero, who came off at the break in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Manchester City due to illness, felt it was "disgraceful" that Frank had so few senior players to call upon.

The former Atalanta man, then, couldn't have timed his impending absence better, as Rooney added: "What doesn't help is comments in the week before about the lack of players Tottenham have. He clearly speaks his mind as well.

"But unfortunately, you've got to go and back that up with performances when you're vocal like that - and I don't think he's done that."

Tottenham's absentee woes

Romero's dismissal on Saturday was his second of the season and means he will miss meetings with Newcastle, Arsenal, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

The defender joins a hefty absentee list, which includes James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Ben Davies, Lucas Bergvall, Richarlison, Pedro Porro, Djed Spence, Kevin Danso and now Destiny Udogie, who was forced off with a thigh problem in the second half in Manchester.
