West Ham edged closer to safety at the weekend with a crucial 2-0 victory over relegation rivals Burnley.
Crysencio Summerville continued his hot streak with his fifth goal in as many games, while January signing Taty Castellanos opened his Premier League account for the Hammers.
Despite still sitting in the relegation zone, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are now just three points behind Nottingham Forest and have won three of their last four matches, giving fans hope of survival.
Reflecting their impact, two West Ham players have been included in Troy Deeney’s latest Premier League Team of the Week.
Disasi, Diouf Make Team of the Week
Axel Disasi, who arrived on deadline day from Chelsea, was one of the Hammers to make the list, alongside Senegalese left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf.
Deeney praised Disasi’s defensive contributions, saying: “Disasi has to defend a bit deeper at West Ham – big, organised, putting his body on the line. He gives them a physical presence they’ve missed.”
On Diouf, Deeney added: “Wonderful cross for the goal in the win at Burnley. He’s been sensational since he came back from the Africa Cup of Nations.
“He’s really added pace, power and a little bit of bite they have been missing down that side. He didn’t have a great start to the season but we’re starting to see the full potential of him now.”
If Disasi and Diouf can continue performances like that, West Ham fans may have more reasons to believe in survival, with Nuno’s side finally finding a spark in the fight against the drop.
