Rangers ‘could be forced’ to agree cut-price sale of Leeds United and Tottenham transfer target

Rangers may need to sell Nicolas Raskin this summer to avoid losing him for free

Rangers are preparing for interest in Nicolas Raskin to ramp up once the current season ends, as this summer could be their last chance to sell for a decent figure.

The 24-year-old was a top target for clubs in Europe during the winter transfer window but he remains a key part of Danny Rohl’s plans as they eye a shot at the Scottish Premiership title.

The Light Blues moved to within three of league leaders Hearts during the last lot of league results. A commanding 5-1 win over Kilmarnock for Rangers, teamed up with the Jambos’ defeat St Mirren marked an ideal run of results for Rohl and co.

Raskin has started 21 of a possible 23 league games so far this season. His contract is due to expire next year, meaning if Rangers don’t sell this summer, they risk losing him for free in 2027.

Rangers ‘could accept cut price’ for Nicolas Raskin

According to Football Insider, Rangers ‘could be forced’ to accept a cut price offer for Raskin’s signature once the summer window opens. By this time, he will be into the final 12 months of his current contract.

Interested clubs have reportedly been encouraged in their pursuit of Raskin, due to time being against Rangers if the player doesn’t sign a new deal.

The Light Blues are very much aware of the situation and are ‘bracing for interest’ to accelerate once the 2025/26 season draws to a close.

Who is interested in signing Nicolas Raskin from Rangers?

Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United are both showing interest in Raskin and both have been described as ‘long-term admirers’ of the Belgian. However, interest from unnamed European clubs is also circling.

“He will just have one year left on his contract at Rangers and if there’s no new deal agreed, Rangers might be forced into cashing in on Raskin,” Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke said.

“They won’t want to risk him running down his contract and potentially leaving on a free transfer.

“Clubs will be well aware of the contract situation, thinking they might be able to get Raskin for a cheaper fee in the summer due to that contract situation. They will be hoping they can lure him away with a decent-sized offer in that respect.”
