All the injury news ahead of Wolves’ crunch trip to Nottingham Forest in midweek
Wolverhampton Wanderers face a crucial test if their slim Premier League survival hopes are to continue for much longer on Wednesday night, as they travel to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest in a massive six-pointer.
Rob Edwards’ side are currently 18 points adrift of 17th-placed Forest and nothing less than all three points will do if the Old Gold are to begin to cut away at that deficit with 13 matches left to play.
The clash is just as crucial for Forest, who will come into it knowing West Ham’s result at home to Manchester United on Tuesday night as the Hammers begin to put pressure on Sean Dyche’s men and those above them.
Both Wolves and Forest will have players missing for the encounter, with some important late fitness tests set to take place ahead of this crucial battle between two sides looking to avoid relegation to the Championship this term.
Nottingham Forest injury news for Wolves clash
Forest will be without at least three players for the visit of Wolves to the City Ground, though they will be boosted by the return of Neco Williams from suspension after the full-back was sent off for a handball on the goal-line against Crystal Palace.
Goalkeeper John Victor remains on the side-lines with a knee injury picked up in the defeat at Aston Villa in early January, which is expected to keep him out for the season after he underwent surgery.
Star striker Chris Wood was also forced into knee surgery earlier this season and has not featured since October, with a while to wait before the New Zealander is expected back in action at the City Ground. Nicolo Savona also looks set to remain out with his own knee issue.
Forest also have two doubts for the game. Centre-back Murillo missed their 3-1 defeat at Leeds last time out with a calf injury, which Dyche has claimed is “not too serious” and added that there is a chance the Brazilian is back in time for Wednesday. Matz Sels, meanwhile, is suffering with a groin issue and is also a doubt for the clash.
Wolves injury news for Nottingham Forest trip
Wolves have close to a clean bill of health at present, with just two players currently suffering with injury issues ahead of the trip to Forest in midweek. Captain Toti Gomes is out with a hamstring injury and is expected to remain on the side-lines at present, ahead of a potential return later this month.
Head coach Edwards said in his press conference on Friday: “Toti is still not training with the team yet, so he's still unavailable. But other than that, we're in decent shape.”
Meanwhile, Brazil midfielder Andre also missed Wolves’ 3-1 defeat at home to Chelsea on Saturday and it is not yet clear whether he will be passed fit to feature at Forest. Edwards said when he was left out at the weekend: “Andre is a slight calf [injury]. We gave him until today [Saturday], this morning, but unfortunately, that one was forced.”
Edwards will hope to avoid any further injury concerns ahead of a crucial trip in midweek, as his side look to get back to winning ways with still just one solitary Premier League victory on the board this campaign.
