West Ham panic at cryptic injury update – Leeds United hope for survival boost

Leeds United will be hoping for a rare favour from our trans-pennine rivals this week as they travel to face West Ham on Tuesday night.

Leeds face a very daunting three-match stretch in the Premier League to close out February.

Up first is a visit to Chelsea on Tuesday night before another away day at Aston Villa, to then host Manchester City at Elland Road to end the month.

Can Leeds United shock Chelsea to open gap on West Ham in relegation scrap?

Leeds’ comprehensive and aggressive victory over Nottingham Forest hammered home two opinions amongst neutrals. The first being that many pundits expect Leeds to be fine (I ain’t counting my chickens), and that Forest are right in the mire.

West Ham have done their bit to keep the scrap interesting. They bounced back from a home defeat to Forest with three wins in their last four, which could have been four successive victories if they held onto their 2-0 lead at our midweek opponents Chelsea.

It leaves Leeds still sitting on a six-point gap with 13 games left to play, including that final-day clash between Leeds and the Irons at the London Stadium. Equal parts mouth-watering and nail-biting, depending on your affiliation.

West Ham fans panic as Nuno Espirito Santo offers worryingly cryptic injury update

As we travel to Stamford Bridge, we hope for a favour from Michael Carrick and his Manchester United side later on Tuesday evening.

They make the way to the London Stadium in search of an elusive fifth successive win. Hopefully, it gets that lad’s wild barnet chopped off in the process.

For the Irons, their fans have been left panicking on Monday afternoon. Nuno Espirito Santo has just delivered a cryptic injury update.

“Unfortunately we’re going to have some players out. It is what it is, but I’m not going to say who it is,” Espirito Santo told the press.

Could West Ham be facing brand new injury nightmare as Leeds United watch on?

You never wish for injuries for opposition players.

That being said, if you’re looking at players that West Ham could capitulate without, the obvious one at the moment is Crysencio Summerville. He’s scored in five successive games and looks back to the form that saw us sell him for £25million-plus-add-ons.

Mateus Fernandes looks an absolute revelation in midfield and also irreplaceable with his power, energy, and quality on the ball. Either wing-back being missing wouldn’t be ideal, nor would Jarrod Bowen or either new striker signing.

Every team gets injuries though. And, anything to scupper West Ham’s alarming surge of momentum would be a real benefit to our survival bid.
