‘Desperate’ Thomas Frank highlights the ‘main thing’ Tottenham will be focusing on ahead of…

Tottenham enter into the contest vs. Newcastle United with just six points above the drop zone.

Tottenham Hotspur’s underwhelming season continued on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Spurs have been Manchester United’s bogie team in recent meetings, the highlight of which was the north London club’s Europa League final win last May. However, hopes of extending their six-game unbeaten league run against the Red Devils received a big blow when Cristian Romero was sent off in the 29th minute for a reckless challenge on Casemiro, and it went downhill for Tottenham from then.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes in either half helped Man United deliver Thomas Frank’s side a 10th Premier League defeat of the season. Following the result at Old Trafford, Tottenham have dropped to 15th in the Premier League, carrying just a five-point gap to the relegation zone.

The Lilywhites do not have much time to lick their wounds as they come up against Newcastle United at home on Tuesday evening. The Magpies are not in great shape either of late, but having won five of their last seven games against Spurs, they will be slight favourites on paper.

Thomas Frank “desperate” to beat Newcastle United

After a 2-0 defeat away to Man United, Thomas Frank and Co. are now winless in their last seven league games. They have been woeful at home for the second season running. Tuesday gives them a great opportunity to give the N17 faithful something to cheer after what has been a disastrous campaign thus far.

Addressing the media at his pre-match press conference, Frank was repeatedly asked about relegation. While he refused to say whether Tottenham were embroiled in a survival battle, he admitted they are “desperate” to beat Newcastle and secure their first league win in 2026.

“There is no doubt we are desperate to win games. Desperate. I am focusing on Newcastle tomorrow. That is a great opportunity ahead of us against a good team. That is the main thing,” Frank was quoted by Football London.

Fast start required vs. Newcastle

Frank will be raring for a rousing response from his boys on Tuesday, and a fast start could unsettle a low-in-confidence Newcastle side. Spurs do not have any other option other than taking the game to Eddie Howe’s side, who have been struggling for form too.

Allowing the Toon Army to settle in the game would pose a danger to the hosts. Frank’s men have to be on the front foot from the outset to get the home crowd involved. Newcastle have caused problems for Tottenham in recent years, but this is perhaps the best time for the north Londoners to face them and get a first league win in 2026.
