Cherries aiming to mark first visit to new Everton stadium with win: Preview

Bournemouth played twice at Goodison last term, and they won both, although the 3-2 comeback victory in the Premier League was the more dramatic of the two games.

They’ll hope to taste three points against the blue side of Merseyside once again after they were beaten by the Toffees at the Vitality Stadium earlier this term.

But they’ll have a tough task against an in-form Everton. The Daily Echo previews tonight’s game.

Team news

Andoni Iraola will have much the same squad to pick from as he had for the visit of Aston Villa.

Tyler Adams is approaching a return, but Iraola said it may be too soon for the American, although he will be assessed.

Marcus Tavernier is also getting closer to a return, but he is not yet back in team training.

Justin Kluivert and Julio Soler are long-term absentees, while Ben Gannon-Doak is progressing from his surgery in November and he may be back in contention next month.

David Moyes has a fully fit squad aside from Jack Grealish, who scored the only goal in the reverse fixture, with the Englishman potentially out for the rest of the season.

Head-to-head

As mentioned, the past two visits to Everton have yielded positive results for the Cherries.

In August 2024, Iraola’s side headed to Goodison Park for the final time in the league, and they produced a largely poor performance.

They trailed 2-0 with just minutes to go – but three goals in an extraordinary spell for the Cherries saw them turn the game around for a remarkable 3-2 win.

They backed that up with a 1-0 win at home in January 2025, thanks to a David Brooks strike, before a 2-0 win at Goodison in the FA Cup.

The two met in preseason in America, with Bournemouth winning 3-0, but at the start of December, the Cherries were beaten 1-0 by their visitors to Dean Court thanks to Grealish’s strike 12 minutes from time.

Form

Both sides enter the game on good form.

The Cherries have lost just once in their past seven league games, in a 3-2 defeat to league leaders Arsenal.

But they are unbeaten in five, winning three and drawing twice, including at the weekend against Aston Villa.

Eighth-placed Everton are also unbeaten in five, but with three draws and two wins, although they won 2-1 away at Fulham on Saturday.

AFC Bournemouth travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Tuesday, February 10, kick off at 7.30pm.
