Leeds United legend Pablo Hernandez is continuing to impress in the managerial game, taking CD Castellon to the top of La Liga 2.
The Whites are looking to remain well clear of the relegation zone this week under Daniel Farke with a testing trip to Stamford Bridge in store for Daniel Farke.
Away from Elland Road, Pablo Hernandez’s meteoric rise in his first managerial stint at CD Castellon continues to catch the eye.
Pablo Hernandez takes CD Castellon to top of La Liga 2 with stunning 4-0 away win
When Hernandez took over as an initial caretaker boss at Castellon, they were in the relegation zone of Spain’s second tier after five games.
Fast forward to Sunday evening and they’re now top of the table, and looking at climbing into La Liga as a result. In 20 league games, Hernandez has amassed 43 points, comfortably the best in the division since he took over.
Their move to the summit came by virtue of a 4-0 battering of Real Vallodolid away from home. Three goals in the first half came through patient buildup as Ousmane Camara found space and slotted in the opener. Then, two set pieces were converted by midfielder Diego Barri.
Late in the second half, Brian Cipenga curled in an absolute beauty of a finish for 4-0. In turn, it prompted an ovation from the home crowd. He whipped in from 25 yards as the ball looped into the top corner, leaving the home Pucela fanbase speechless.
Real Vallodolid’s Victor Orta staring into the abyss as Pablo Hernandez puts his side to the sword
Hernandez wasn’t the only Leeds connection at the José Zorrilla Stadium. Real Vallodolid’s sporting director at the bottom end of La Liga 2 is Victor Orta.
Having left Sevilla in similar fashion to how he departed West Yorkshire, it’s getting worse for the former Leeds chief.
Hernandez confidently dispatching of Orta’s club with a 4-0 pasting prompted to the home fans to chant for the Spaniard to get out of their club:
“Cries of ‘Get out, Get out!’ To bid farewell to Real Valladolid after the disgrace of the first half against Castellón. The chant ‘Víctor Orta out of Zorrilla!’ has also been heard!”
It’s a story from the weekend that’s sure to warm Leeds fans. Given how both Spaniards’ legacies are remembered at Elland Road.
For Hernandez, his magic on the pitch is translating to the managerial side of the game. For Orta, he just cannot catch a break, unfortunately.
